Department of Social Services
Encourage participation of the disadvantaged and suffering social groups in social development, by providing relief and rehabilitation and creating a background to prevent them falling into such conditions
  1. Conductiing early intervention programmes for the disabled children
  2. Development of vocational skills of the persons with disabilities and provision of job placement services
  3. Relieving persons affected by disasters
  4. Relieving persons affected by drugs and integrate them into sociaty as a drug free, self relieance force
  5. Up grading knowledge of personnal providing services for te disadavantaged persons
National Programme on Community Based Rehabilitation (C B R )

          Rehabilitation of persons with disabilities to enable them to enjoy their rights and to assume responsibilities and perform their duties. Provision of opportunities through social development programme for social integration and to have equal opportunities.

National Counselling Division
Our mission is to obtain contribution of all citizens in Sri Lanka to the national development by improving mental health through counselling services, awareness, leaderships, co-ordination, preventing of mental imbalances and individual personality development by using psychological methodologies

Activities

  •  Preparation of a legal framework for proper psychological Counselling services at national level.  Conducting of  Counselling services for persons with special needs, Families and groups.
  • Making people aware of improving mental health and to conduct Counselling clinics at community level.
  •   Training of  Counsellors and developing their vocational skills to improve quality of  the Counslling service.
  • Commemoration of National Counselling Services Day, co-ordination of government and  NGO's concurrently with the International mental health week.
  •  Co-ordination of activities of the ministry with government, NGO and private sector institutions and  and professionals in the Counselling held to make Counselling services more effective and productive.
  •   Construction of Counselling Centers to improve the quality of Counselling services

National Institute of social development (NISD)
Provide trained manpower for the leadership in the efforts of social development and assist in the formulation of nation social policy
  • Advice the minister regarding plans, programmes and activities for the development of social work and social development education
  • conduct undergraduate programmes and postgraduate course in social work and social development programmes.
  • Conduct and promote studies on social welfare system and social development programmes
  • Initiate and promote innovative practices in social work and the social development education system, including adaption of technology
  • Provide for the development of professional and managerial competence of personal in the social welfare system
  • Make available to the Government and other approved organizations, specialist services in social work and social development
National Secretariat for Elders
Encourage participation of older persons in social development and to ensure their Independence, Care, Participation, Self-fulfullment and Dignity. Also to protect the right f elders through awareness programmes

  3. Provision of welfare services for the elders
  4. Registration of sociaties of elderly persons

National Secretariat for Non Governmental Organizations
To mobilize and coordinate with NGOs with the national policies and amke them to contribute as partners in development
  • Co-ordination of the implimentation programmes of government and non-government agencies for the achievement of national objectives.
  • Liaison with donor agencies with a view to providing financial contribution forNGO
  • To provide free and liberal environment for NGOs to work in sri lanka ub socio-economic development sectors
  • To strengthen the institutional capacity of the development oriented NGOo in Sri Lanka
  • To maintain a data base of NGOo and donor agencies
  • To strengthen the cooperation between the government and NGOo
  • To mobilize and make use of the NGOo in socio economic development in sri lanka
  • To facilitate the NGOo to implement their projects/programmes in Sri Lanka through the government administrative network.
