Hon. Minister  Douglas Devananda

Hon.Douglas Devananda, Minister of Social Services & Social Welfare assumed office in November 2005. Hon.Devananda was born in Jaffna in 1957, and studied at Jaffna Central College until he came to Colombo for further studies. Later, he joined the Eelam Liberation Organization as an active member. Subsequently, he entered into politics representing Jaffna District and had been elected as a Member of Parliament for the first time in 1994. Until to-date, he continuously represents Jaffna District as the Member of Parliament. In the year 2000, he was appointed as the Minister of Development, Rehabilitation & Re-construction of the North and the Tamil Affairs, North East, in the People's Alliance Government headed by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge. Later he functioned as the Minister of Agricultural Marketing

Development, Co-operative Development, Hindu Affairs and Minister assisting Education & Vocational Training in the year 2004.

At present, Hon. Douglas Devananda is the Minister of Social Services & Social Welfare under President Mahinda Rajapakse's regime.

   
 

Hon.Deputy Minister

    Hon.Lional Premasiri,  Deputy Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare was born in Galle in 1962, had the education at Mahinda College, Galle & started his life as a lawyer in 1988.  Subsequently, he joined politics for the first time, and became a member of Galle Municipal Council in 1991.  Then he contested for the Southern Provincial Council Election in 1993 and became a member of the Provincial Council and again in 1994 for the General Election  Hon.Lional Premasiri became the Mayor of Galle Municipal Council in 1997 and again in 2002 for the second time. .

  Thereafter in 2004, he was elected as a Member of Parliament  for Galle District.   On request of     H.  E.   the President, he joined the government in the year 2006 and was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Social Services & Social Welfare, which post he holds presently
